Tips: What rated voltage of the electromagnetic relay should be chosen?

Electromagnetic relay is a kind of control relay which is used to increase the number of control loops or amplify signals. During operation, when the voltage of the coil reaches the specified value, the electromagnetic relay will operate. The contacts of the electromagnetic relay are prone to virtual connection fault, which often occurs during the operation of electrical control. It may not always appear, so this fault is difficult to judge. But when it does happen, it can lead to a major accident. This fault is caused by the change of the contact resistance of the control loop, which makes the actual voltage at both ends of the coil lower than 85% of the rated voltage, so that the circuit is out of control. However, what rated voltage of the electromagnetic relay should be chosen?

    • Try to avoid using low voltage below 12V as the control voltage, because in this low voltage circuit, the virtual contact fault is most likely to occur.
    • When the control circuit uses 24V as the control voltage, the parallel contact should be used to improve its working reliability.
    • When the control circuit must be controlled with low pressure, it is better to use 48V.
    • The control circuit had better use 110V and above voltage as the rated control voltage, which can effectively prevent the generation of virtual contact phenomenon.

    High quality 3PDT electromagnetic relay
I use this 3PDT electromagnetic relay to power a duct booster fan. The relay coil is powered by the terminals on my forced air unit. I had been using a pressure switch for this function.
