Difference between 2 phase and 4 phase micro stepper motor
Phase. The Phase means that the number of coils inside the motor. The 4 phase stepper motor is composed of two coils, while the 4 phase stepper motor is composed of three coils.
Steping angle. Stepping angle refers to the angle of each step of the stepper motor. Generally, the step angle of the 2 phase motor is 0.9°or 1.8°, and the 4 phase motor is 0.75° or 1.5°.
Dimensions. 4 phase micro stepper motors are generally large motors, so the size is generally larger than that 2 phase motors. Therefore, 4 phase stepper motors run more smoothly than 2 phase motors.
Torque. The torque of the two phase stepper motor will be slightly larger than the torque of the three phase motor with the same size.
Accuracy. The 4 phase stepper motor has high-speed performance, smaller step angle and better accuracy than the 2 phase stepper motor. Since the torque decreases slowly with the increase of speed, it is usually used in occasions where high precision is required.
