Tips: Do PVC diaphragm valves have packing?

PVC diaphragm valves typically do not have traditional packing materials like those found in globe valves or gate valves. Instead, they use a diaphragm as the primary sealing element. The diaphragm is a flexible membrane that moves up and down to control the flow of fluid through the valve. When the diaphragm is in the closed position, it seals against the valve body, preventing the flow of fluid.

Good little flanged diaphragm valve

Installed this on a small RO pretreatment system. The CPVC body handles the low pH permeate perfectly. The handwheel turns smoothly and the diaphragm seals tightly. Much easier to adjust flow than a ball valve. It’s been running for months with zero problems.

Works better than the metal valve we used before

We use this CPVC diaphragm valve in our fish pond recirculating water treatment system. The 1/2-inch size fits the drip line perfectly, the PTFE diaphragm is corrosion-resistant, and the handwheel operates smoothly.
