Tips: Stepper motor operating temperature and humidity
General requirements of stepper motor operating temperature range is 0 ~ 50 ℃, humidity is 20% ~ 90% RH; storage temperature range is -20 ~ 70 ℃, humidity is 15% ~ 95% RH.
Temperature requirements
If the motor working environment temperature is higher, consider to reduce the working current of the motor to reduce the temperature rise, eventually to control the motor internal heat insulation system can withstand the range. For example, if the ambient temperature at 60 ℃, the motor temperature rise will control within 60 k. Because the vast majority of the stepper motor manufacturer of insulation material is a class B standard, higher levels of insulation material are almost impossible to corresponding or cost is too high, so in high temperature applications environment, a more realistic option is to control the rise of temperature of the motor, is to strengthen the cool conditions or reduce the working current of the motor.
Stepper motor temperature is too high, in addition to the safety of the insulation system, can also affect the stability of permanent magnets. Permanent magnets will increase with the temperature demagnetization, so as to reduce the working torque of the motor. Stepper motor temperature is too low, will make bearing grease solidification, thus lose bearing lubrication, so lower than 0 ℃ to consider to choose low temperature under the condition of bearing.
Humidity requirements
Stepper motor to humidity requirements, main is to avoid condensation inside the motor. The outer surface of the stepper motor rotor and the stator's inner surface of the silicon steel sheet in addition to processing time tu rust-proof oil generally no other measures rust, if the humidity is easy to condensation on the surface, causing rust. As a result of the stepper motor rotor and stator gap is very small, rusty spot is likely to be stuck rotor so that the motor failure. On the other hand is the humidity is too high, will also affect the insulation properties of insulating materials, for the work of general motors is low the small size of step motor general effect is not big, but for step motor driving voltage is higher, the effect still cannot be ignored.

Run my machine
I've converted an old radial arm saw to a CNC router. I'm using three of these nema 42 stepper motors , and I am both surprised and pleased at how well they run this rather large machine.

Love these nema 42 stepper motors
I love these nema 42 stepper motors. I have a project where I had to mount one of these stepper motors onto a small speaker that has manual volume control. It was an excellent purchase.
