Tips: How does the ammonium ion selective electrode measure NH₄⁺?

The ammonium ISE (NH₄⁺ ISE) measures ammonium ions by generating a membrane potential across a PVC sensitive membrane, which is directly proportional to the NH₄⁺ activity in the solution. The membrane contains ion-exchange sites that preferentially interact with ammonium ions, minimizing interference from other cations. The ClickOK reference system provides a stable reference potential, while the detachable annular liquid junction ensures reliable contact and reduces the risk of clogging.

A useful ion selective electrode

We liked the fact that the PVC membrane can be replaced instead of replacing the entire electrode. For our lab, that makes more sense because the electrode gets used fairly often. It is still working well after regular testing.
