    Tips: What are Linear Bearings?

    Linear bearings are high-precision and low-cost linear motion systems characterized by small friction force. They are often used in combination with guide shafts and produce consistent linear motion through the rolling motion of balls. Linear bearings demand not that much load in application due to the point contact between the balls and the bearing. Hardened steel balls rotate inside the bearing with minimal friction thus achieving high-precision and stable motion.

    So how does a linear bearing work? The linear bearing comprises a steel ball cage in which multiple balls make endless loop motion. The cage (also retainer) is fitted with double lip seals at both end rings. A notched window is provided on the straight track along which each steel ball is loaded by a normal force to move. This part is engineered to let the force-loaded balls form rolling contact with the shaft allowing relative motion between them with a rather low friction coefficient. Hence, linear ball bushings serve as the ideal type for machinery, automation equipment and energy-saving appliances etc.
