Tips: Six attentions of installing VFD in automatic control system

    1. For the frequency given signal should be used as far as possible 4-20mA international standard signal. Should make sure the signal line shield ground, to avoid the interference signal into the VFD. The production site has an interference signal, the interference signal will affect the stability of the control, so need to use input filter, and set its range to be 0.00-5.00s. If using VFD built-in PID function should use the feedback filter to increase the control stability of the built-in PID, the setting range is 0.0-60s. However, it should be noted that the filter time is set too long, the control is stable, but the system response is worse; the filter time is set too short, the system response is fast, but the control is unstable. So it should be based on the actual scene to make adjustments.
    2. To set the corresponding manual, automatic switching operating function. Optional manual, automatic, forced manual functions of manual operator. If necessary, could also consider the redundant operation function of the current and voltage setting, that is, the VFD frequency setting signal use current setting in normal, using voltage setting in abnormal manual operation. That is, add a potentiometer for setting g the VFD frequency, so the VFD frequency reference signal has two types, current signal and voltage signal. Because there are two types of frequency setting signals input in the VFD, increasing its redundancy degree.
    3. Must set the "overhaul switch", that is, set the "on-site overhaul switch" next to the operating equipment, when switch it to the "overhaul" position, equal to cut off the VFD running signal circuit. If someone misuse, the equipment can't run, to ensure that the safety of mechanical equipment maintainer.
    4. Make full use of the VFD input and output control terminals function, to carry out some alarm and interlock function, to reduce wiring and improve reliability.
    5. For single or simple control system, can take full advantage of the VFD built-in PID control function to reduce the control system equipments and reduce investment.
    6. Some VFD have input terminals R0, T0 of control power. So should connect control power to VFD R0, T0 side in front of the main power supply. So that the VFD still has a display function after the trip, in order to analyze the cause of the malfunction and take countermeasures.

Running a single phase motor with VFD

In this video, ATO will show you details about running a single phase motor on a VFD. It's important to note that there are two wiring methods for single phase motor connecting to ATO single phase VFD: wiring of removing motor capacitor & wiring of keeping motor capacitor. At first, you should choose the wiring method you needed, and then set basic parameters step by step.

    Question about GK3000-1S0037
I have two of these drives and I'm trying to run a three phase motor. Will it work or this can only do single phase in and single phase out? Thank you much.

Yes, it can output 3 phases. If the process meets other problems you can contact our after-sales: support@ato.com.
    Single phase VFD diagram
We are currently using this wearing diagram. With u we are at 6.75 amps with v we are at 22 amps and with w we are at 35 amps, which is too many amps.

We think that after you removed the cable of the single-phase motor and changed it to three wires, the internal winding structure of the motor was unbalanced and the current of phase C was too high.
We suggest that you restore the internal wiring and capacitors of the single-phase motor to the original, and then you only need to connect the 2 wires of the single-phase motor to U,W of the VFD output terminal.
Please reset the parameters according to the parameter setting instructions of the attached single-phase motor, and test again.
Hope my explanation is able to assist you. Please feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.
Do you have electrical plug wiring picture of VFD?
I have one question. We received the pump and the VFD.
I checked in the lab that we have the electrical plug NEMA 6-30, 208VAC, 30A single phase, with three wire.
As per the instruction manual to wire the VFD on 220V single phase, the picture (page 30) showed connection for only two wires.
Do you have the wire schematic to wire on the electrical plug NEMA 6-30, 208VAC, 30A single phase? I appreciate if you can help.
In advance, thank you for your time and help.

The VFD models you purchased are GK3000-1S0022 and GK3000-1S0037. The power supply is connected to the two terminals of the reserved screws in the input terminals R, S, T.
The terminal with the screw removed is not used, and the terminal marked E is the ground wire.
Any two terminals of output terminals U, V, W can be connected to a single-phase 220V motor.

    Questions about 5HP VFD
Is the internal fan on the 5HP VFD supposed to run all the time the pump motor is running? Thank you.
    From: Jaeden | Date: 03/03/2023
Was this review helpful? Yes No (0/0)
    ATO Responded
As long as the 5HP VFD is running, the fan will automatically run; when the VFD is stopped, the fan will also stop. So if the VFD is running, but the fan is not, then there is something wrong with the fan.
Just want to be absolutely clear before wiring everything up.
Keep the R, S, and T terminals wired how it originally came, got it. And to confirm, the green wire going internally into the VFD IS grounded? So no need to attach anything to the E ground terminal? For the green and red wires, am I correct in saying you've attached the green wire to the white wire coming from the power supply cable, and the red wire to a black wire? Then these 2 wires have a 2 prong plug attached that goes into a wall outlet? And what's the green wire resting on the side of the VFD do?
    From: Randolph | Date: 27/07/2022
Was this review helpful? Yes No (0/0)
    ATO Responded
Yes, please keep the R, S and T terminals wired the way they are. The green wire is N and the red L, you can see the number on the cable. The green and red wires (L, N) are directly connected to your 120V input power supply, and AC power does not need to distinguish between the live and neutral wires. The E on the terminal can be connected to the input power ground wire G.
    Questions about 1-phase VFD
Do I unhook the start/run capacitors when connecting your 1-phase VFD to my 1-phase motor?

    ATO Responded
Our single VFD has a potentiometer beside its operation panel, and also you can install external one if needed.
    Good 5hp single phase VFD
For your 5hp single phase frequncy drive, does this keep the motor in it’s torque capability at low speed?
    From: Irene | Date: 20/04/2021
Was this review helpful? Yes No (0/0)
    ATO Responded
There are constant torque VFDs, but for the 5hp single phase VFD, it's not, the torque will reduce along with the speed.
