Tips: When to use an isolated DC-DC converter?

In a DC-DC converter, a single regulation circuit allows current to flow directly from the input to the output. But there are many applications that require galvanic isolation to electrically separate the input and output sides of a device. For example, safety requirements may require the use of isolated DC-DC converters, especially if the voltage connected to the input is high enough to endanger humans.
