  1. The single phase motor should Not be adjusted to run based on a lower frequency than 80% of its rated frequency for along time, otherwise the motor may fail.
  2. ATO VFD Cannot be used as a power source, it Can only be directly connected to an induction motor to control the motor speed.
  3. Single phase VFD Cannot control the motor in reverse, if you want to reverse the motor, refer to the motor nameplate instructions for operation.

Tips: Irrational application in variable frequency drive energy-saving
The variable frequency drive is a power-saving control product, but it can't be used to save energy in every occasion. In fact, the VFD is able to save energy through adjusting the motor speed, and it has slightly higher efficiency and power factor than other speed control equipment. If the variable frequency drive can achieve energy saving is determined by the speed characteristics of the load.
For centrifugal fans or centrifugal pumps loads, the torque is proportional to the square of the speed, and the power is proportional to the cube of the speed. As long as uses the valve to control the flow, and not in full load operating, using speed control operation can achieve energy saving. When the speed dropped to 80% of the original, the power is only 51.2%of the original. We can see that the VFD has obvious energy saving effect in this type of load applications. For Roots blower loads, the torque is independent of the magnitude of the speed, that is, it is constant torque load. The original uses exhaust valve to discharge excess air flow and to adjust the air volume, if uses speed control operation, it can also achieve energy saving. When the speed dropped to 80% of the original, the power will drop to 80%, the energy-saving effect is much lower. For constant power loads, power is independent of the speed. Such as the ingredients belt scale, under the set flow conditions, when the material layer is thick, the belt speed down. When the material layer is thin, the belt speeds up. In this type of load applications, the VFD cannot achieve energy saving.

I'm having trouble Installing my VFD
I'm trying to install it on a Leeson 3hp single phase motor 230V input with run/start capacitors. When I installed it the motor just rock back and forward not making 1 compete turn so I'm thinking that I Program it wrong but I cannot find ANYTHING to tell me how to do a factory reset.
So, we left that one alone and we try to install it on a different motor a Rockwell same size and output as the Leeson. This time it ran but we burn out the start capacitors I am an electrician but I have never installed a VFD before I feel that I have it wired right.

First of all, the forward and reverse rotation of the single-phase motor can only be achieved by changing the motor wiring method. And the forward and reverse rotation can Not be changed directly through the VFD (only three-phase motors can).
In addition, the wiring of the single-phase motor can maintain the capacitor wiring method, but the motor can Not run at low speed and low frequency. We recommend running the single-phase motor above 40HZ, otherwise the running capacitor will heat up and be damaged. This is determined by the principle of the single-phase motor.

Our VFD does not have a power-off restart parameter. If you use the terminal control start, the power is cut off and then restored when the terminal is closed, and the VFD will run if the terminal is still closed.
About installation
After purchasing your ATO single phase input/output VFD 3hp unit, I am finally going to install it. Turn off the phase loss protection: set PA=0; I assume this is still required?
I would like to keep the capacitors, so my input power 240VAC goes to L1 & L2 with the output going to the motor via U & V or V & W with E for ground. Is this correct? I would like to run the motor at approximately 300-500 rpm without damaging the motor. Is this OK?

1. You still need to turn off the phase loss protection: set PA.13=0; Since your motor is a single-phase motor, we do not recommend running the motor below 40Hz for a long time, otherwise the single-phase motor will easily heat up.
2. Regarding VFD wiring: Yes, your input power 240VAC goes to L1 & L2 with the output going to the motor via U & V or V & W with E for ground. Please free to contact us if you have other questions.
