    AC Gear Motor Standard Installation

    • All the ATO 3-phase AC gear motors are suitable for this installation method, as shown in the following diagram.
    • In the diagram, Q1, Q4, Q7, Q8 are the standard types of oil hole direction. If you need the air hole be on a special position, please contact us to modify the air hole direction.
    • In actual use, it is recommended to pull out the oil plug in the air hole to balance the pressure in gearbox.

    Tips: How to calculate torque for 3-phase AC gear motor?

    After calculating the gear ratio, convert the torque using the conditions of the machine used.

    1. First, calculate the torque of the conveyor pulley (T1)
      T1 = (μ × load × roller radius) ÷ η1
    2. Convert the result into the torque required by AC gear motor output shaft (T2)
      T2 = (T1 × sprocket reduction ratio) ÷ η2

    Calculation example

    1. T1 = μ × W (D/2) ÷ η1
      = 0.15 × 600 × (0.2/2) ÷ 0.95 = 9.5kgf-m
    2. T2 = (T1 × 1/2) ÷ η2
      = (9.5 × 1/2) ÷ 0.9 = 5.28kgf-m

    Wonderful gear motor!
    My 20:1 gear motor works fine. I would like to know why the torque of the gear motor decreases as the speed increases?

    ATO Responded
    When the gear motor is rotating, the inductance of each phase of the motor winding will create a reverse electric potential. The higher the frequency, the higher the reverse electromotive force. Under its action, the phase current of the motor decreases with the increase of frequency (or speed), which leads to the decrease of torque.
