    Feature Comparison: Solar-Powered vs Battery-Powered

    Feature Solar-Powered Soil Sensor (ATO-NAS-STH02B) Battery-Powered Soil Sensor (ATO-NAS-STH01B)
Power Source High-efficiency solar panels + NiMH rechargeable battery. Ideal for remote gardens, greenhouses, or outdoor monitoring where battery replacement is inconvenient. 3 AA batteries. Suitable for short-term use or small gardens where easy battery access is available.
Maintenance Low maintenance; solar automatically recharges the battery. Perfect for long-term monitoring with minimal attention. Requires battery replacement or recharging. Good for temporary projects where regular battery maintenance is acceptable.
Outdoor / Remote Use IP66 waterproof, suitable for all-weather outdoor and remote locations. Can be installed unattended in hard-to-reach or remote areas. Limited by battery life; must be near battery access. Best for indoor or backyard locations where batteries can be changed easily.
Monitoring Duration Near-continuous runtime (solar + battery backup). Ensures long-term stable soil monitoring. Weeks to months depending on battery. Sufficient for short-term experiments or indoor plant care.
Installation Flexibility Can be installed anywhere, including hard-to-reach or remote locations. Great for flexible, outdoor setups. Backyard, or locations accessible for battery replacement. Better for locations where battery changes are convenient.
Cost Slightly higher upfront cost. Offset by long-term savings in maintenance and battery replacement. Lower upfront cost. Budget-friendly for short-term or indoor projects.
Environmental Impact Eco-friendly, solar-powered. Sustainable and energy-efficient choice. Uses disposable or rechargeable batteries. Acceptable for temporary or indoor use.

    FAQ

Q1: How can I manually measure soil data?

In addition to setting automatic detection in the APP, press the reset button on the wireless soil sensor. It will immediately detect the current soil temperature, moisture, and conductivity. Each measurement lasts about 3 seconds.

Q2: What soil moisture level indicates overwatering?

A moisture reading around 80% indicates the soil is too wet. Note that the ATO smart soil sensor cannot detect 100% soil moisture—0% represents air, and 100% represents water.

Q3: What should I pay attention to when using the Zigbee soil moisture sensor?

    • Keep the metal probes clean before inserting into soil to ensure accurate readings.
    • On dense lawns, remove surface grass to allow full contact with the soil.
    • In flower beds, place the industrial soil sensor at least 10 cm away from the bed edges to avoid interference.
    • Not suitable for small indoor pots or metal containers.

Q4: Is it normal for the data to fluctuate slightly?

Yes. Slight variations in soil temperature and moisture are normal. If readings remain unchanged for a long time, press the reset button for a new measurement.
