    What is a Radiation Sensor?

    Radiation sensors, often referred to as radiometric sensors or radiological detectors, play a vital role in various fields, ranging from nuclear energy to environmental monitoring. These sensors are designed to detect and measure different forms of radiation, including electromagnetic radiation like light and X-rays, as well as particle radiation such as alpha particles, beta particles, and gamma rays.

    A radiation sensor, also known as a total radiation sensor or radiometric sensor, includes various types such as total radiation sensors, thermal radiation sensors, ultraviolet radiation sensors, radiation monitoring sensors, solar radiation sensors, net radiation sensors, and photosynthetically active radiation sensors. A radiation sensor is a detection device that can perceive the information being measured and transform it into electrical signals or other required forms of information according to a specific pattern to meet the needs of information transmission, processing, storage, display, recording, and control.

    • Solar Radiation Sensor:solar radiation sensor is used to measure the total solar radiation in the spectral range of 0.3-3 µm. If the sensing surface is directed downwards, it can measure reflected radiation, and with the addition of a shading ring, it can also measure scattered radiation.
    • Thermal Radiation Sensor: A thermal radiation sensor consists of dual-layer quartz glass, a sensing element, a shading plate, a housing, desiccant, and other components. The sensing element is the core part of this sensor, comprising a fast-response wire electroplated thermopile. The sensing surface is coated with 3M non-reflective black paint, and it acts as the hot junction. When exposed to sunlight, its temperature rises, creating a temperature difference with the cold junction on the other side, generating an electromotive force that is directly proportional to the solar radiation intensity.
    • Ultraviolet Radiation Sensor: The ultraviolet radiation sensor uses a photodetector to receive electrical signals from ultraviolet light waves. This product is used for precise measurement of solar ultraviolet radiation (UVAB wavelength range) in the atmosphere.
    • Radiation sensors: A radiation monitoring sensor is employed to measure the received irradiance on the Earth's surface, mainly for measuring solar total radiation, radiation at the zenith angle of about 0.5°, and scattered radiation in the narrow annular sky around the sun.
