Timer relay, or time delay relay, is virtually a kind of relay, which generates a contact action after the set precision time when the input signal is added or removed. It is an electrical component that can switch on or off high voltage or large current circuits by using low voltage or small current. ATO online shop provides analog time delay relays, digital timer relays and programmable timer relays for your different applications. These timer relays have a wide time settings and the operating voltages DC 12V, DC 24V and AC 220V are available. The 8-pin socket for DIN Rail mounting is also optional. For specific information, please refer to the product pages.

4 Points for Choosing a 12V/24V Timer Relay

ATO offers analog time delay relays, digital timer relays and programmable timer relays for your different applications. The following aspects should be considered when selecting:

    1. Current and voltage level. For magnetic damping and air damping time relays, the current and voltage level of their coils should be the same as those of the control circuit. Motor type and transistor type time relays, the current type and voltage of their power supply. The rating should be the same as that of the control circuit.
    2. Delay mode. The delay mode is selected according to the requirements of the control circuit, namely power-on delay type and power-off delay type.
    3. Contact type and quantity. Select the contact type (delayed closing or delayed opening) and quantity according to the requirements of the control circuit.
    4. Delay accuracy. Electromagnetic damping time relays are suitable for occasions with low precision requirements, and motor-type or electronic time relays are suitable for occasions with high delay
    5. The operating frequency should not be too high, otherwise, it will affect the electrical life and even cause the delay action to be out of tune.

What Can an Electronic Timer Relay Do?

    • Expand the control range: For example, when the control signal of a multi-contact relay reaches a certain value, it can switch, break, and connect multiple circuits at the same time according to different forms of contact groups.
    • Amplification: For example, sensitive relays, intermediate relays, etc., with a very small amount of control, can control circuits with high power.
    • Integrated signal: For example, when multiple control signals are input to the multi-winding relay in a specified form, the predetermined control effect is achieved after comparison and synthesis.
    • Automatic, remote control, monitoring: For example, the relay on the automatic device can form a program control circuit together with other electrical appliances to realize automatic operation.

How to Connect and Set Timer Relay?

Digital timer relay has the advantages of accurate measurement, simple setting, multiple protection functions and high speed, etc. It is an ideal substitute for traditional electromagnetic and static relays. Digital time relay is generally used in automation equipment electrical cabinet, street lamp control, water pump timing operation control, equipment timing start and stop control and other occasions. We will experiment to see how it is set up and works in the following video.

How to Adjust the Time of the Timer Relay Delay?

    1. Adjust the static core and armature between the non-conductive shims
Non-conductive shims of different thicknesses change the working air gap, air gap changes, and the armature closed after the stable flux also changed, because the flux in normal operation is close to saturation, air gap change is not much on the size of the stable flux almost no effect, but access to a certain thickness of the shim will make a significant change in the residual flux, thus changing the position of the flux change curve, in the release of the spring tightness of a certain situation, the release flux, Therefore, increasing the thickness of the shim can reduce the delay time; conversely, it will increase the delay time. Non-conductive shims are generally made of phosphor bronze sheet, a thickness of 0.1, 0.2, or 0.3mm, this method of adjusting the delay is a step adjustment, so it is used for coarse adjustment.
    2. Adjust the release spring
The tighter the release spring, the greater the reaction force, the easier to open the armature, the smaller the delay, and vice versa, the looser the release spring, the greater the delay, the release spring adjustment has a certain limit, can not be unlimited loose release spring to achieve increased delay, because the spring is too loose, the delay will be inaccurate, and even the armature will not be released; the same can not make the spring too tight, so as to avoid the armature can not be absorbed, this method can be a continuously smooth adjustment, so for fine-tuning.
